Hunter & Southwest Hunter Mountains – 11/16/13
A beautiful late season Fall day and another 2 peaks completed. We started at the Devil’s Tombstone campground and followed the trail to the saddle between the two peaks. The initial climb was quite steep, but the trail had many switchbacks which made it not as tough as some of the recent trail-less peaks we have climbed. The more hikes we do, the more conditioned we become. From the saddle, we continued up Hunter Mountain, which is the second highest peak of the Catskills at 4040 feet. Once on top we ate lunch and checked out the view from the fire tower. On the way back, we to a side trip to catch and sign the cannister on Southwest Hunter Mountain. The Fall days are getting shorter and light was fading as we made it back to the parking area. All in all, it was another great day in the Catskills.
