Dutchess District Fall Camporee at Camp Nooteeming – 10/10/14

This weekend we attend the Hudson Valley Council’s Fall Camporee at Camp Nooteeming. The theme was Revolutionary War and we were amazed at the amount of time and effort that was put into keeping every activity relevant to the theme. The crew had it’s own theme when it came to cooking – BACON. I think we used bacon in every meal:-) Thanks to our friends of Crew 65 / Troop 65 for the...

Low’s Lake Canoe & Fishing Trek – 07/27/14

For this summer’s outing, the crew decided to do a five day canoe trek at Low’s Lake in the Adirondacks. We drove up in heavy rain, which cleared by the time we arrived at Sabattis. Upon arrival, we did our swim test and had our canoeing skill evaluated. We proceed to the Trek center and set up our tents for the night and checked out our gear for the trek. After the BBQ dinner we attended the opening campfire ceremony. Monday morning we awoke to a steady rain which lasted the whole day. We portaged all our gear and canoes from the Trek Center to the waterfront, loaded up the...

The crew had a really fun time mountain biking at Lippman Park in Wawarsing this morning. We did a 3.5 mile loop and then enjoyed our lunch in the park. After lunch, some of us did a second loop while the others relaxed by the lake. After Lippman Park, we proceeded up to the Sydney Clapp camp for some good hearty campfire cooking and spent the night. Special thanks to Lindsay Brower for suggesting Lippman Park and for being our guide. This site does not support embedded trip maps. View the trip here...

Cornell/Wittenberg Mountains and Camp out

Camporee Scramble Weekend The Crew was planning to attending the council camporee at Mohonk Mountain this weekend, but unfortunately the camporee was cancelled at the last minute. Not wanting to miss an opportunity to get outdoors, we scrambled to come up with another plan. After a short discussion the pln was to hike Cornell and Wittenberg Mountains and then camp out at the Sidney Clapp camp. It was a beautiful day for a hike and there where many people out hiking. It was a little muddy in areas, and even experienced patches of snow and ice near the top. We did have a hail shower on the way...

Backpacking trip – Hemlock, Spruce & Fir Mountains

We couldn’t have asked for a nicer weekend for a backpack trip. We left Saturday morning from the Slide Mountain parking area and bushwacked our way to the peak of Hemlock Mountain. It was quite a steep climb and carrying full packs made it quite the challenge. It was a slow climb as we weaved through the underbrush and rock formations. Once to the top, we found a good spot to set up our tents and hammocks as well as prepared a spot for our fire. The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing and enjoying the great day. Clouds rolled in in the evening, so the stars and moon were not...
